Our Under 16 Boys and Coaches enjoyed a fantastic night at the Island Centre in Lisburn on Friday 1st November.
They were duly presented with the Junior Sports Team of the Year 2019 Award. Our Club are extremely proud of all of them. This recognition is testament to their attitude, commitment, work ethic and camaraderie.
This season, we welcome 5 members of our neighbouring Club, St. Patrick’s GAC, Lisburn. This link has been proven to be extremely successful. What is also significant is that this team benefited from a cross-community initiative between our Club and Lisburn Rugby Club which started several years ago. A link was forged with players participating in each of the codes. Two of the current starting 15 joined the Club via this initiative and have played from Under 8 upwards.
The team comprises of a panel of 24 extremely dedicated players who have been training and competing since December 2018. They achieved an impressive record of 28 wins and just two defeats, sadly one of these was the All County Championship final.
The team has shown exceptional skill on the field having defeated teams from all across Ulster at various stages as well as an exemplary disciplinary record with not one player receiving a red card in any game.
This year, they won the Breslin Shield, Antrim Under 16 Section 2B, Antrim Division 2 Under 16 League and were runners up in the Under 16 B Championship. Junior Sports Team of the Year is undoubtedly a well deserved award.
The future is bright for this group of players and the Club would like to thank Gavin Phillips, Dermot O’Boyle, Gareth O’Neill and Donard Shannon for drive and determination to help these young men fulfil their potential. 2020 awaits…
