Senior Reserve Shield Group 2
St. James Aldergrove 0-13 St. Joseph’s Glenavy 3-8
St. Joseph’s Glenavy completed the double over neighbours Aldergrove in this Reserve Football Shield, Group 2 meeting in Crumlin last night and in doing so put themselves in pole position to advance to the play-offs with Tir na nÓg, Randalstown.
In an excellent game of football played in front of a good crowd on a warm evening, goals proved the difference in the end and it was the Chapel Hill side who provided them, three in all coming in the second half.
The home side looked like they might gain revenge for their defeat at Chapel Hill in the corresponding fixture when they led 0-6 to 0-4 at the break with Paddy Morris, Mickey Smart, Conor Hanna and Ryan Gorman the men on target for the Crumlin side.
After the break it was the visitors who took control and goals from Malachi Docherty, Declan Doone and Paddy Fox that swung the game in their favour despite the best efforts of Ryan Gorman and Declan Gough who struck three second half points for St. James’.
St. Joseph’s and Tir na nÓg meet on Monday night at Chapel Hill in a game that might well decide who tops the group while St. Paul’s still have an outside chance of qualifying if they beat Glenavy on the final day of the season at Shaw’s Road.
