Glenavy 1.12 v 2.06 Rossa
Rossa travelled to Glenavy as hot favourites to return home with a win. The home side won the game in the first half with a sustained attack on the visitors defence to lead by seven 1.08 v 0.04 at the break. Once again a Glenavy team almost let a seven point lead slip. With ten minutes left the score was 1.10 to 0.06 to the home side. Two Rossa goals from Ciaran Quinn and Michael Close almost spoiled the party for the hill side.
Ciaran Quinn got the visitors first score with a point. Ben McCambridge and James Gallagher put the hill side in front with points apiece. Bill Kelly added to the Shaw’s Road sides score with a point from play and one from a placed ball. Fergal Henry pointed twice to give his side the lead, Pearse O’Neill added a point to put two between the sides. Ciaran Quinn pulled a point back for Rossa. Aaron McGarry scored a beauty from an acute angle. James Gallagher and Fergal Henry put four between the sides with points. Ben McCambridge got possession in midfield and the ball was worked to Gerard Hamilton who took his goal with aplomb to leave the halftime score 1.08 v o.04 in the orange mens favour.
Rossa had the first point of the second half but parity was restored with a James Gallagher point. Back came they visitors with a point from Michael Close. Fergal Henry added a point to put eight between the sides. Rossa were now going for goals rewarded when a Ciaran Quinn effort found its way through a crowed goal line into the net. Fergal Henry had a very useful pointed free to stem the flow. Once again the home defence was breached when Michael Close found the net to close the gap to two. Once again the ever reliable Fergus pointed a free to get the last score of the game. Final score Glenavy 1.12 v 2.06 Rossa as referee Colin Mallon blew the full time whistle.
