2020 Round Up – Under 16 Boys

As with all teams, our U16s had a strange 2020. The boys went through a disjointed season unbeaten and were looking forward to a league final when the season was unfortunately cut short. A huge effort was put in by everyone on the panel throughout the year training hard through lockdown and putting in great performances when the matches came along. Our end of season awards were distributed to three well deserved recipients – we would like to thank all the lads for their effort and commitment this year and look forward to getting back at it again next year.

Donard, Gavin, Dermy

2020 Awards

Player of the Year – Fiontán O’Boyle

Fiontán is a unique talent who can play in a number of positions. He lined out for U16s in midfield due to his fielding ability, his ability to carry the ball and his stamina levels which are fantastic for an U16 footballer. He has also been representing our minors for 2 years and that’s how we know he’s a special talent as he has never once looked out of his depth. A very worthy recipient and if he continues to work hard one definitely to watch out for in our senior team in years to come. Well done Fiontán!

Most Improved Footballer – Matthew Kane

While Matthew deservedly won this award there were quite a few who ran him close which is great and reflects the talent coming through our underage ranks. Matthew lined out at midfield this year alongside Fiontán and it was his fielding that won Matthew this award. We played some good teams this year in the U16 league, in the Breslin Cup and through friendlies. In each game Matthew held his own or dominated his opponents with his fielding, tackling when out of possession and his driving runs forward. He also represented our minors in his first year at U16 and again showed very well in some tough games. To top it all off he also has a great attitude which makes him easy to play with and coach. Well done Matthew. Well deserved.

Players’ Player – Daniel Hamill

Daniel won this award selected exclusively by his teammates and he won it hands down. A strong tackling corner back, Daniel is popular around the club and with his teammates. He never misses training, has a great attitude to his roles in the team and has so much enthusiasm and passion for playing for Glenavy which makes him a worth recipient of this award. Well done Daniel!
